Keith Dawes

Keith is the true embodiment of scouting both past and present. His commitment to the Movement is second to none. Over many years Keith has given, and continues to give, invaluable service at both Group and District level.

Giving freely of his time, skills and experience, Keith has taken on challenge after challenge where he has not only got the job done but gone above and beyond what was expected of him.

Keith is always prepared to give help and advice wherever and whenever needed. There are many people of all ages and levels within Cabot District who have had the benefit of Keith’s’ special talents where, In his quiet, modest way, Keith has turned many a difficulty into an opportunity and then developed these into a success.

Keith has been a constant support to the 7th both in a direct role and as part of the Group support team where his experience, knowledge and personality have proved to be of immense value. Over his time with the Group Keith has held the positions of Cub Leader, Scout Leader, Venture Scout Leader, Beaver Leader and Group Vice President and has always been prepared to step in to help whenever asked or more often whenever he has seen a need. For example, having seen that there was a need for a Group Secretary, Keith volunteered to take on the role himself on a temporary basis and immediately revitalised the Group Executive Team with his enthusiasm and professionalism.

Keith was instrumental in setting up our Beaver Colony giving key support and guidance to the new Leaders. The Colony plays a key part in the strength and future of the Group.

For many years Keith has run the administration of our camp site, he has done this in a friendly, smooth and efficient way that has enabled many different groups of people to use the facilities with ease.

In the build up to, and during our Group Centenary Year, Keith was a key member of the team organising the celebrations and publicity that resulted in a hugely successful year of events and press coverage, projecting the core message of Scouting to a wide section of the public.

Keith has been very involved with Cabot District. Once again Keith does not believe in sitting back where he sees a need, taking on the daunting role of Acting Group Scout Leader of the 169th at a time of great need. Not only did he keep the Group running but stepped down from the role only after strengthening the Group and ensuring that it had the foundations required to ensure that it would move forward from strength to strength. This took a huge input of time, energy and commitment.

Keith’s abilities and personal attributes have also been put to use with great success in running District camps and sub camps at District Jamborees.
