Review of our winter 2017 events – a very busy term!

It’s been a VERY busy month or two of events and activities at 7th Bristol!

Remembrance Sunday

First we had the lovely Remembrance Sunday parade and service. This was almost certainly the best-attended in our history and a sight to behold as our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts paraded through the Village along with the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides. The service itself was incredibly moving as the wonderful bugler called the Last Post to perfection.

Johnny (Grey Wolf) and a couple of young Beavers assistants absolutely ROCKED the outdoor coffee stall, serving hot drinks to passers-by and those attending the event, while the Guides team did a sterling job as always – serving up hot bacon rolls. Yummy!

Co-op Community Causes Day

Next up, a large group of 7th members descended on Co-op Clifton Village to collect our award of over £2,400 in funding from the Co-op’s Local Community Causes Fund. Co-op chose 7th Bristol to receive a share of the 1% of customer donations, for which we are incredibly grateful. This money will go towards upcoming renovation work at Pavey House, particularly the provision of accessible toilet facilities at ground floor level. I don’t think Karin at the Co-op could quite believe her eyes when we all turned up! It was a fabulous occasion. THANK YOU CO-OP!

Guiding & Scouting Christmas Bazaar

The same day was the Guiding and Scouting Christmas Bazaar at Pavey House. We were in the festive mood with mulled wine, turkey, stuffing & cranberry rolls, plus more cakes than Great British Bake Off! There were festive games and craft activities plus ‘Santa’ flew in on his skip on his sleigh for a jolly visit, and was an instant hit with the young ones. He was a funny-looking chap, but the hair was spot-on the right colour 😉
The bazaar raised money for Scouts, Cubs, Beavers and Guides, Brownies, Rainbows to use for activities they’re planning in 2018.

Cubs Fire Station Visit

Finally, Cubs visited Patchway Fire Station earlier this month to learn about what to do in a fire and to hear how the firemen tackled blazes. They all got a chance to spray the hose too! Thanks to Cubs leaders for organising, and parents for braving the rush-hour schlep over to Patchway.

Coming up soon…

Christmas Party and Sleepover is coming up on 15th December. Then in the New Year it won’t be long until we’re in the run-up to Easter and our first Group event of the year; an Easter Egg Hunt on 25th March 2018. Stay tuned for information coming next year.

Finally, below are the 2017 Group photos for your photo albums, taken at the Remembrance Sunday event. Enjoy! Links to hi-res printable versions are here and here.

Merry Christmas to everyone, and a very Happy New Year.

Carlton,
Group Chairman
